Biography

Newborn, growing out of the dream of going out into the world with spirited folky baroque popsongs: Oceancat by multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Silvan Strübel hits the road as a fresh project. In the songs Oceancat (O. for short) tries to look one's own emotions in the eye, to allow oneself to be unsettled, relieved, to connect, to find oneself from the narrowness into the wideness, which, if adjusted/found, may break at any time and transforms into something new. The topics O. deals with include patriarchal masculinity, exclusion/attributions based on race, gender and body, war, happy and diffuse relationships, family stories, dreaming of and believing in a fairer world. In this cosmos of themes O. meets the elements: fire, earth, water, air and tracks down ideas, feelings, melodies and words that often lead all together in a new song. 'Down on the Road again' is part of O.'s first album "Walking Times" whose first Singles are in planning to be released in 2024. The song is produced in truly diY-homerecording manner by O. It describes the state of not getting to go and the longing for more lightness. A simple four chord piano accompaniment carries beautiful cristalclear yet fragile baritone vocals. This is Oceancat.
