CÂLINE is a band from Zurich led by the singer and songwriter Sabine Wiesli.
The band name translates to sensuous, which has to do with the music that has a fine, smooth character.
Idiosyncratic and unselfconscious, it moves between influences from different styles, such as jazz, pop or chanson. The music is multi-layered and yet simple, performing spherical and sometimes psychedelic soundscapes.
Reticent drums, an airy piano and a supporting bass accompany the warm, complex voice of Sabine Wiesli. The cello, accordion and Moog synthesizer provide additional depth and atmosphere.
They are songs with mostly English and some French lyrics; Songs about snowy winter in childhood, fleeting encounters on the train or the tension between calm and unrest.
