Biography
KRUGERRAND, the band, was founded 1982 in Durban, RSA where the four Kruger-sons were matriculated with University of KwaZulu-Natal UKZN. Both Uno-Volcano and L.J. were working towards their M.Sc. in Molecular Physics, Jimmy please had just graduated as Microbiologist and Rand E. had just passed his exams as Philologist ...when suddenly they decided that the academic way of life would not suit them... . So, one night, chilling at their favorite bar 'The Lazy Lizard' in Hillcrest near Durban, they decided 'Come on, let's build a band!'. Of course, all of them were mastering a couple of instruments from childhood days like guitar, drums, piano, bass, keyboard, pan, flute, sax, trumpet, hautboy, harp, virginals etc.
They played their first gig ever as openers at the 1982 'The Who' concert in Birmingham, UK and were soon after topping the UK charts with their unforgettable 'Going to a Yo-Yo'. In 1984 Universelle Records contracted them and the albums 'Still Jive', 'Same Girls', 'Zooloo-Lounge' and 'Licky Fingers' came out, followed 1993 by 'Bridges to Marylong', 'A quick Nun' 1995, 'Quadrophonia' 1997, 'Endless Fire' 1999 and soon after 6-times-Platinum album 'Battle and Cum' was released in 2000.
They took a creative break from 2001 - 2005 to take a rest after ten albums and pursued their personal hobbies such as race car driving, free diving, basejumping, alligator catching, sailing and horse breeding .
