Biography
Since my early childhood I loved music more than anything (I got that from my mum!). At the age of nine, I received the first cassettes of Michel Jackson and Boney M. In 1990 I moved to Switzerland, and for the first time I got a chance to get to know western music.
The following year I started to hear Dancefloor, Hip-Hop, R’n’B, Reggae, Drum’N’Bass, Rock. Hip-Hop and Dancefloor were my favourite music styles, and YO MTV RAPS (by Doctor Dre & Ed Lover) was my favourite TV program at that time. I definitely became addicted to music. I spent my free time, my pocket money and everything for music. My dream to become a DJ started growing. When I was out for dancing, I spent most of my time watching the DJs instead of dancing!
In 1994 I listened to the first good quality Tamil-Remix songs by a group called Soul &Sound. Through them I became a real fan of Tamil-Remix and I started to collect Tamil-Remix albums of all good Tamil DJs from all over the world.
In 1995 my entire life was changed. I started realizing that I needed a saviour, otherwise there would be no purpose in life for me. I got to know Jesus Christ and became a great fan of his. He set me free of my music addiction and gave me a purpose for my existence. From that time on he was taking priority in every part of all my activities, and it stayed that way till today.
In 1996 I got a chance to get working with a radio station through one of my friends. There I learned about PA-systems, moderating, editing and mixing, and I also got to know a number of Underground DJs. At the end of 1996 I started broadcasting my own live radio program "Power of India" every Saturday night. For my program I mixed the remixes of cinema songs of Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam Films as well as of Tamil, Hindi and Sinhala albums. This gave me an opportunity to perform as a DJ in several cultural festivals, private parties and village ceremonies.
In 2003 I started getting interested in Tamil Hip-Hop, and I realised that some friends had similar ideas. My goal was to become a part of the beginning Tamil Hip-Hop movement. On the other side I wanted to show young people the importance of knowing Big J. One year later, my friend Ramesh had the great idea. He said: “Why don’t you bring the two together? Make Tamil Hip-Hop and include Big J!” - I felt God would like the idea! The answer is what you hold in your hands: RAP PULAVARZ
